Iceberg heading towards Flateyri?

One more thing to do on your trip to the Westfjords: Iceberg Watching. The Reykjavik Grapevine today reports of two Icebergs, heading towards Dyrafjordur and Bolungarvik, two places very close to Flateyri.

For anyone out and about in the Westfjords, the Grapevine contains a word of warning about approaching the Iceberg.

Should you be out boating and spot a nearby iceberg, by all means take photos but avoid approaching it – icebergs can break apart without warning, meaning larger ones can cause serious injuries to those on deck, not to mention the fact that most of an iceberg is under the surface, making their true shape hard to tell.

Hopefully the fact that so much of the Iceberg is underwater means that it will run aground before it has a chance to do any real damage. Will be interesting to follow the outcome of this, nonetheless.
