Update 01/04 Arrived from the Sunday times? Check out my BLOG ENTRY ON THIS SUBJECT
This website has been set up to promote my apartment in Flateyri, the Westfjords, North West Iceland, which I rent out when I am not there myself.
The Westfjords have just been listed by the Lonely Planet as #5 on its list of top ten up and coming destinations in the world to visit in 2011. I have tried to explain the attractions of the area in the frequently asked questions page on this site.
Despite its recent endorsements by the lonely planet, along with the guardian, the area is still very remote and undeveloped. Encompassing a land mass the size of Wales yet home to only 8000 people, the area is unique in Europe, and tourism is still in its infancy. Indeed, there is only one proper hotel in the area, along with a few guesthouses. It is a stunning, beautiful and hidden part of the world. The landscape literally takes your breath away.
The apartment is part of a block that was built in 1983. My apartment is on the ground floor.

The building wasn’t designed to maximise the potential of the amazing views from all three sides, but whatever way you look, the view is still pretty spectacular.

Inside there are three main rooms in the apartment – a kitchen/living room, with two sofas, a dining table with chairs, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, and a small patio that I am hoping to rebuild in may next year. This looks out across the road to some open ground, the sea and surrounding mountains. there is a tv with dvd player and speaker system.

The main bedroom has a king size bed with built in wardrobes.
The second bedroom has a bunk bed, again with built in wardrobes.

There is also a bathroom with bath/shower, and a utility/drying room.
If you are interested in renting out the apartment, please contact me. My email address is westfjordsapartment@yahoo.com
